Submissions of extended abstracts describing exciting research are invited for the Brief Presentations (BP – formerly WiP) session of the IEEE Real-Time Systems Symposium (RTSS). The primary purpose of the BP session is to provide researchers with an opportunity to discuss their ideas and gather feedback from the real-time community at large. Of particular interest are ideas and contributions that present significant paradigm shifts, explore unique and unconventional approaches to important problems, or investigate fundamental departures from conventional wisdom in adopted solutions.
For the first time of RTSS, the BP session will accept Work-in-Progress (WiP) papers as well as Journal papers never presented in conferences (Jnp). The former are devoted to the presentation of new and on-going research in real-time systems, theory, and applications. The latter should be the abstract of the journal version explaining relevance to RTSS and clearly citing the work being summarized. The intention of Jnp papers within the BP session is to allow short presentations to be made at the conference concerning work presented elsewhere that is relevant to the RTSS community and that might not be widely known by RTSS attendees.

The BP session will be held during the symposium. Accepted WiP submissions will be included in the main RTSS proceedings with the title indicating that it is a WiP paper (e.g. “Work-In-Progress paper: Name of RTSS WiP paper”). Accepted Jnp will not appear in any printed form at the conference (since they are summaries of work presented elsewhere). Submissions will be considered for inclusion in the program based on relevance to RTSS and the amount of time available for the BP session.
One author of every accepted paper (WiP or Jnp) should be registered to the conference and present the paper during the conference. All the projects will be presented orally and in a poster session.
Submission Instructions
Each submission should consist of:
- a maximum 3-page extended abstract submission describing original on-going work for the Wip.
- a maximum 3-page extended abstract submission resuming journal papers never presented in conferences; they can be submitted like a WiP paper, with the title modified by adding “Journal never presented on conference: Title”.
Both WiP and Jnp have to come into a single pdf document, and thus the length of submitted documents should NOT exceed 3 (three) pages including references and figures – submissions exceeding 3 pages will not be reviewed.
The 3-pages WiP papers will be published in the main RTSS proceedings.
Papers should be formatted as single-space, double-column (normal IEEE format), in a 10 point font. Templates are available at:
